My Username
When I first got on the Internet, it was usually easy enough to get my preferred username: "kiml." However when AOL and Prodigy opened the spigots to getting every Tom, Dick, and Harry online, I'd end up getting "kiml736291" for a username.  So, I had to come up with something that I knew would always* be available.

Linux Howtos

This is a small collection of Linux howtos I've written.

shift-space underlines text in KDE

Problem: <shift>-<space> causes your text to be highlighted as you type in KDE on Linux.
You've searched the KDE Keyboard & Mouse configuration center, checked all of the Global Keyboard Shortcuts and Standard Keyboard Shortcuts and cannot find any definitions for shift-space. This is driving you NUTS!
Cause: SCIM (Smart Common Input Method) is changing your input locale
Solution: use scim-setup to remove the keyboard shortcut.

About this site design.

Up to now all of my personal sites have been very conservative and fairly plain, with a tecchie bent. The artiest one I've had was a green-on-black theme which was very reminiscient of old 1970s/early 1980s business computers with green monochrome monitors, and I used the stereotypical "computer style" typeface that was so common in advertising at the time (and is still in use today as account numbers on bank checks).  I got a lot of great feedback at the time and am sometimes still asked to bring it back.

Now, I'm a professional and always thought it important to keep a conservative look when I bother to do a web site for myself. However, this time around I wanted something more artsy, so cute and girly that it makes you a little nauseated while saying "Oh, that's kinda cute." In fact, I named the design "nauseatingcuteness" on the back end.  I hope to have it done soon but I'm touching PHP for the first time in a couple of years (I haven't coded in 2-3 years aside from bash, powershell, and vbscript scripts) so let's hope it goes well! :)

Soy Decoder (Soy Aliases) - Avoid soy allergies and soy intolerance

The plug was pulled on Geocities so the "Soy Decoder" is offline and the original author never responded to my inquiries. So, for your convenience and mine I am posting the original content from that page on here, including the URL to the original (and now defunct) site. Note: I am not the author of that site; I have just found the list *incredibly* useful in helping me not get sick!

Sorry about the formatting, I just did a copy and paste. I'll clean up the format some other time.

Linux Howtos Anyone Can Understand - Introduction

Linux is a very powerful operating system for both the desktop and server environments and contrary to popular belief, Linux really is ready for the desktop - at least the software itself is. Unfortunately that is not the case with the documentation.
